Irish Painter, 1806-1870 Irish painter, active in England. He grew up in Cork where his father had set up as a shoemaker after discharge from the British army. In 1822 Maclise went to the Cork Institute where he began to draw from the newly arrived collection of casts made after the antique sculpture in the Vatican, laying the foundation of the strong draughtsmanship that characterizes his mature work. Richard Sainthill, antiquary and connoisseur, encouraged Maclise and introduced him to local literary and artistic circles, which were influenced by the Romantic movement and interested in Irish antiquities and oral traditions. Maclise was a central figure in this early phase of the Irish revival, and maintained an interest in Irish subject-matter throughout his career; in 1833 he painted Snap Apple (Mrs Cantor priv. col.), and in 1841 contributed illustrations to Samuel Carter Hall's Ireland: Its Scenery and Character. Nuzi, Allegretto
Italian, 1320-1373 .Italian painter. He was probably trained in Fabriano by local masters who introduced him indirectly to Giottesque and Sienese influences. Familiarity with the work of an anonymous artist responsible for the frescoes (Urbino, Pal. Ducale) from S Biagio in Caprile also contributed to his early style. Nuzi's first signed and dated work is a Maest? of 1345, believed to have been painted for S Domenico (formerly S Lucia) in Fabriano. This altarpiece is a close contemporary of two frescoes in the sacristy of the same church, which have been ascribed to his hand following their restoration in the mid-1970s (Donnini, 1975).
Marcello Bacciarelli
16 February 1731 - 5 January 1818) was an Italian painter of the late-baroque and Neoclassic periods. He studied in Rome under Marco Benefial. In 1750 he was called to Dresden, Saxony, where he was employed by Elected King Augustus III of Poland; after whose death he went to Vienna, and thence to Warsaw. There he met and worked by the side of Italian painter in Dresden, Vienna and Warszawa , Bernardo Bellotto. He was the Director there of the new set up Academy of Arts of Warsaw.He painted a set of the Polish kings, from Boleslaus Chrobry downwards. That of Stanislaus II, Stanisław August Poniatowski has been engraved by A. de Marcenay de Ghuy, Kestner, and A. Fogg. Bacciarelli also painted scenes from the History of Poland. He died at Warsaw. A number of his paintings were painted for King Stanisław August Poniatowski of Poland and are in the Royal Castle in Warsaw.
